Women Are Made in the Imago Dei Too

Palmer Chinchen

It’s time for Christ-followers everywhere to lead the way in ending the marginalization of women and give them equal opportunity to lead in our churches.

Maybe women have found equality in other realms of society, but not so much in the church. I naively believed women had been liberated in the sixties. I was wrong. I recently listened as a leader emphatically pronounced that his church would never allow a female worship leader. Where do people come up with that kind of doctrine? Certainly not the Bible.

The church must address the role of women in leadership. We cannot keep women marginalized and domesticated. The imago Dei (Image of God) resides at the core of every one of God’s beautifully created people, and that matters most.
